A limit describes the value a function gets close to as x approaches a target, even when the function is not defined there.

Use direct substitution first. If it works, the limit is usually immediate.

When substitution gives 0/0, simplify algebraically before substituting again.

Continuity at x = a means the function value exists, the limit exists, and both are equal.
